A Commis plays a vital role in the kitchen brigade, supporting food preparation, mise en place, and presentation of dishes. This position requires a solid understanding of basic culinary techniques, attention to hygiene and safety, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic kitchen environment.
Responsibilities
Here’s what you’ll do during a typical day:
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of menu items following established recipes and standards.
- Prepare and organize mise en place for assigned station.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Receive, check, and store deliveries in compliance with food safety standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of storage areas.
- Ensure food quality and freshness, reporting any concerns to senior chefs.
- Clean and sanitize workstations, equipment, and utensils regularly.
- Handle waste disposal and linen management appropriately.
- Adhere to food hygiene and safety regulations.
- Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and grooming.
- Attend daily briefings and contribute to team communication.
- Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations.
- Participate in training programs to enhance culinary skills and knowledge.
- Be flexible with working hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Perform additional duties as assigned based on operational needs.
- Maintain a hygienic kitchen and high standards of personal hygiene.
- Participate in training.
