The Senior Network Architect is responsible for the strategic design, planning, and evolution of enterprise-wide network architectures that support current and future business requirements. This role ensures that network infrastructure is scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned with organizational goals and service level agreements (SLAs).
The position provides technical leadership across network design and implementation initiatives, oversees complex deployments, and acts as the highest technical authority for network-related decisions. The Senior Network Architect mentors engineering and NOC teams and ensures seamless integration of advanced networking, cloud, automation, and AI-assisted technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Network Architecture
- Define and design enterprise-level network architectures including LAN, WAN, WLAN, SD-WAN, NAC, and cloud networking.
- Develop long-term network strategies focused on scalability, resilience, performance, and security.
- Evaluate emerging networking technologies and recommend adoption aligned with business and technology roadmaps.
- Ensure network architecture supports high availability, disaster recovery, and future growth.
Governance, Standards & Compliance
- Establish, document, and enforce enterprise network architecture standards, policies, and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with internal security frameworks, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead network architecture reviews, design validations, and technical approval processes.
- Provide architectural oversight to ensure consistency and technical integrity across all network initiatives.
Solution Design & Implementation
- Architect and oversee the deployment of advanced Cisco enterprise solutions, including routers, switches, wireless controllers, ISE, DNA Center, and related platforms.
- Design and integrate cloud and hybrid networking solutions across public cloud and on-premises environments.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership during complex or high-risk network implementations and transformations.
- Support foundational network automation initiatives using Python, Ansible, APIs, or similar tools.
- Contribute to the adoption of AI-assisted networking tools that improve troubleshooting, visibility, and operational efficiency.
Performance, Optimization & Resilience
- Guide NOC teams in proactive monitoring, fault management, and performance optimization.
- Define KPIs, SLAs, and benchmarks for network availability, performance, and reliability.
- Lead capacity planning, resilience design, and risk assessment activities.
- Ensure network designs meet business continuity and disaster recovery requirements.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Mentor and guide network engineers, senior engineers, and administrators.
- Act as the primary technical authority and escalation point for complex network issues.
- Collaborate closely with system architects, cybersecurity teams, cloud teams, and external vendors.
- Influence technical direction and drive alignment across multiple stakeholders.
Documentation & Executive Reporting
- Produce high-level architecture diagrams, design documents, and technical standards.
- Maintain clear and accurate documentation of network architectures and configurations.
- Deliver executive-level reports on network health, risks, technical debt, and future roadmap.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications & Experience
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in IT networking, with at least 3 years in senior design or architecture roles.
- Proven track record designing, implementing, and supporting large-scale enterprise networks.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex network transformation and modernization initiatives.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- CCNP and CCIE certifications are mandatory.
- Additional certifications are highly desirable, including:
- Cloud networking certifications (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
- Security certifications such as CISSP or CISM
Technical Skills & Expertise
- Deep expertise in enterprise routing, switching, and advanced protocols including:
- BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VRF, VXLAN, SD-WAN
- Strong hands-on experience with Cisco enterprise technologies, including:
- Routers, Switches, Wireless LAN Controllers
- Identity Services Engine (ISE)
- DNA Center
- Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI)
- Strong understanding of cloud networking architectures across Azure, AWS, and GCP.
- Proficiency with network monitoring and analysis tools such as:
- SolarWinds, Cisco Prime, Wireshark
- Experience with network automation using Python, Ansible, APIs, or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted network operations tools is an advantage.
