Job Summary And Purpose
Ensure that all the shareholder’s SHES (Safety Health, Environment, and Security) policies are implemented and adhered to at the selected shipbuilding site for the Nakilat newbuilding programs. The primary focus of the job will be to ensure that the entire on-site construction supervision staff operates in a safe working environment. with responsibility of interfacing with the on-site team, project management team (PMT) and the ship owner.
Key Accountabilities
- Coordinate with the shipbuilder to ensure that Nakilat policies concerning SHES are fully implemented and enforced at this shipbuilding site.
- Perform regular inspections of the shipbuilder’s facilities to monitor SHES compliance and bring any issues to the immediate attention of shipbuilder’s safety management personnel for review and correction if necessary.
- Prepare regular SHES reports, in accordance with shareholder policies, with distribution to the Site Team Manager, Design Construction Manager, Shipbuilding Director, the SHES Lead, all members of the on-site team, and cognizant personnel in the shipbuilder’s organization.
- Liaise with the team of lead shipbuilding inspectors to ensure they are familiar with, and fully understand, the shareholder’s SHES policies; and that all questionable SHES issues are brought to his immediate attention.
- Supervise safety inspectors and provide input on the hiring of any additional safety inspectors as may be necessary to meet staff objectives at this site.
- Coordinate efforts with the Safety Coordinators at other sites as may be required.
- Coordinate efforts of SHES compliance with the ship manager and/or ship owner during such times that these groups may have personnel at the shipbuilding facility.

Qualifications
Qualifications, Experience and Job Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Science or Safety.
Experience
- Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in the oil and gas industry with a ship owner/operator, including involvement design and construction or major conversion of large vessels, including at least five (5) years of direct experience in implementing SHES policies, or equivalent experience.
- Trained to the safety standards of the shareholders or equivalent training or experience).
- Strong working knowledge of recognized international regulatory requirements and standards as applicable to the SHES effort, especially as they apply to the shipbuilding business.
- Understanding of local SHES regulations and policies, as well as the shipbuilders in house policies, guidelines, and SHES organizational structure.
- Knowledge of the ship design and construction business.

- Capable of hands-on supervision of SHES issues at the facilities of a major international shipbuilder.

- Proficient in the use of word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation software (especially Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), including the ability to prepare professional reports and presentations.
