About the job

The IP Security Engineer is responsible for Design, Network and Capacity Management, change management and configuration management related to IP Transport and Transmission domains. Vodafone Qatar is relying on a fully IP converged network and the IP & Transmission Engineer will play a pivotal role in providing end to end service connectivity, network capacity management, working closely with our internal and external partners.

The person in role will be also responsible to manage MBH, CPN, IPT, CDN, etc. connectivity and support IP & Transmission Operations whenever demands come up as per the departmental requirements. Being a multi-vendor environment, the person on the role must perform vendor management and project management as per the Vodafone requirements.

Responsibilities
  • • Design and perform operational tasks related Mobile Backhaul, Converged Packet Network, IP Transit, Security Network Elements, Content Distribution Networks
  • • Deploy & integrate new nodes, execute & oversee acceptance process
  • • Work into developing new products and services, cooperating with IT Product and Development, Information Security, Enterprise Solution Architecture, and other Sub-Functions in the Technology Department.
  • • Working with, but not limited to, Nokia 77×0 SR products and technologies as well as Fortinet, F5, HPE, and others.
  • • Responsible for Network Audit, Capacity, Trend, Risk and Gap analysis and management
  • • Develop and apply testing procedures and test documents, perform validations for solution, migration, software release, device feature, interoperability tests etc. for any new system deployed in Security domain.
  • • Responsible for over-the-path backhaul network planning to meet Mobile & Enterprise needs.
  • • Work with cross functional team of engineers to ensure the delivery of the best-in class network solutions to our customers.
  • • Follow design guidelines to ensure future proof design meeting the targeted key performance indicators
  • • Follow up with different vendors & contractors to ensure smooth delivery on live networks with no service interruption
  • • Support network operations in problems resolutions (ex. LOS cut, Interference, Fading, congestion), network auditing and parameters validation & regularly identifying the areas of improvement leading to cost reduction & perform overall network optimization to enhance the connectivity, capacity & availability.
  • • Prepare the link budget and E2E topology definitions for the microwave links with guaranteed LOS clearance
  • • Performs related tasks consistent with skills and abilities and general responsibilities as assigned by the Line Manager.
  • • Performs related tasks consistent with skills and abilities and general responsibilities as assigned by the Line Manager. Network Design and Implementation: Assisting in the design and deployment of DWDM/OTN systems.
  • • Setting up and configuring optical network equipment using different design tools such as EPT.
  • • Running the health checks procedure on the network and address the required actions as outcome of this procedure.
  • • Keeping detailed records of network configurations and changes documented and updated after any change in the network.
  • • Basic Understanding of DWDM & OTN Technology with extensive knowledge of how DWDM and OTN works and its applications in telecommunications business domain.
  • • Fiber Optics knowledge including the OSP and ISP work environment.
  • • Understanding the basics of optical fibre communication, including light propagation, signal attenuation, dispersion and how to make a light budget.
  • • Project Management: Basic skills in managing small projects or tasks within larger projects.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Telecom, Data, Computer or Networking Engineering
  • Certifications in Microwave propagation models and microwave link planning
  • Certification in IP networking (NRS1-NRS2, CCNA-CCNP etc.)
  • 4 years of experience in connectivity planning for new implementations, Routing and path analysis based on diverse maps & terrain databases
  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of RF path calculation, to determine Frequency bands and perform preliminary dimensioning (antenna sizing, configurations, ODUs, cards, slots, couplers)
  • Experience in capacity planning to secure RAN & Enterprise requirements & identify potential bottlenecks which need to be upgraded
  • Strong background in IP technologies, Data Communication, LAN, WAN, MPLS, VPN service preferably in Nokia routers and switches. And knowledge of Nokia, Cisco, Fortinet, F5, carrier grade backbone equipment
  • 2 to 3 years of experience and well verse with Linux/Unix systems, Server HW, Architecture, Virtualization.
