About The Role

Responsible for PAX and cargo ULD operations worldwide including DOH as Hub – including all the activities pertaining to but not limited to ULD balancing, operations, processes, quality standards, compliance and related manuals. Plan and develop infrastructures that enable delivery of enhanced level of ULD management in line with tonnage, station and product specific growth. Develop strategies to improve ULD messaging in order to ensure data collection that allows for correct ULD inventory monitoring and forecasting. Create and implement new field procedures for Ground Handlers for all aspects of ULD handling and ensure new procedures comply with IATA standards and are included in QR Cargo manual and SLAs. Accountable for inventory management of all ULD stock. To initiate new programs to reduce the cost of ULD costs via better inventory systems/new technology as well as through in-house repair warehouse.

Key Operational Duties Would Include:

  • Develop and implement a proactive strategic approach to ensure all ULD requirements meet ‘best practice’ and in full accordance with all lATA and company requirements. Develop QR Cargo ULD industry standards to promote best practices in the industry. Source and employ research, insight and business information to develop best practice metrics and techniques for continually measuring and reviewing ULD service delivery against pre-determined and stretching benchmarks and targets.
  • Develop a short-term strategic plan of the ULD department, including developing and implementing a cost strategy to ensure continuous evaluation of contract costs as well as opportunities to reduce leasing, repair and ULD movement costs.
  • To identify new ULD technology that will assist with ULD inventory, including blue tooth/RFI that will reduce overall ULD costs. Identify and implement new tools to ensure proper ULD management, including inventory forecasting tool that will meet the fleet growth requirements based on aircraft, route, product flows and other contributing factors.
  • Work closely with the Team to develop effective operational processes and controls to manage the business effectively and ensure that pooling options are utilised to the full Control and minimise operational costs. Lead regular reviews on travel times, task start and end times, resource utilisation as part of plan-control- review cycle for continuous improvement in departments’ processes.
  • Deliver on all ULD operational and handling performance activities for HUB and outstations for both PAX and cargo.
  • Maintain and monitor ULD inventory balance to ensure operational performance throughout the network.
  • Overall responsibility to define, set, and implement systems procedures for cargo operational staff and Ground Handling agents to ensure proper guide lines given for smooth ULD inventory balancing functions. Develop, establish and monitor standard operating procedures (SOP) and internal and external Service Level Agreements (SLA) with the GHA’s in the network to ensure smooth ULD operations network wide. Owning the customer action plans and ensuring all actions are progressed to completion to improve account performance.
  • Agree requirements, processes with all stakeholders and formulate robust methods to measure performance, present KPI statistics to customers and taking action on poor account performance, e.g. high levels of damaged, unreported or lost ULD’s, agreeing specific actions with the customer.
  • To plan future changes in ULD operational needs and develop new working practices, create the standards and make sure they are implemented network wide: initiate and implement steps to improve the quality of service and operational standards of Qatar Airways ULD management- e.g. to identify gaps and implement new current processes that lead to ULD stock inventory balances as well as ensure new processes are included in QR cargo manual, deliver savings from the implementation of optimised resource allocation, process efficiency, and improved inventory management.
  • Initiate and manage all ULD risk issues for the network in ULD shortage situations.
  • Design and establish an ULD performance management team to ensure effective controls on GHA and other suppliers (ex. ULD inventory, messaging responsibilities) as the network and ULD grows and develops.
  • Ensure correct purchase and inventory supply of specialized ULDs to support product development on key growth areas, e.g., Live Animals (including Horse stalls); Perishables and Pharma (temp control monitoring ULD’s).
  • Provide guidance to senior management to improve overall ULD utilization and reduce costs.
  • Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the Head of the Department.
