Job Description


The Therapist I – Respiratory possesses novice knowledge of Pediatric and/or Neonatal cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology. S/he has novice knowledge and clinical acumen in the use of all medical devices and techniques used in respiratory therapy for the Pediatric and/or Neonatal patient population. S/he demonstrates professional skills relevant to patient assessment, disease identification and evaluation, and administration of clinical therapeutic, interventional, and diagnostic care. S/he demonstrates the knowledge and skills to participate in education of the patient, family and the public. The Respiratory Therapist I is responsible for ensuring that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard. The Respiratory Therapist I participates in the supervision and teaching of more junior and new members of staff within the department.


  • Reviews patient’s medical history, conducts assessments of the patient’s pathophysiological condition, recommends appropriate care and documents patient response outcomes in timely and accurate manner.
  • Provides cardiorespiratory related diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, assesses and documents patient response in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Sets up and performs quality control procedures and operates respiratory and laboratory equipment, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Provides basic techniques in airway management; assists with providing advanced airway management.
  • Initiates, monitors and assesses ventilator/respiratory-technology dependent patients on an outlined basis.
  • Recommends and administers individualized medical gas therapies.
  • Ensures effective communication during handover, and end of shift report to ensure that the patient’s needs for continuity of care and level of care are met.
  • Provides emergency care as a member of Resuscitation, and Rapid Response Team as required.
  • Upholds department mandated documentation standards; does so in a timely and accurate way.
  • Provides unit based specialty leadership and direction in the performance of basic and advanced clinical procedures and interventions.
  • Follows all hospital related policies and procedures. Participates in the development of evidence based policies and procedures relevant to Respiratory Therapy as needed.
  • Acts in the role of Preceptor for oncoming staff/students in all areas of clinical care.
  • Collaborates with all medical, nursing and ancillary stakeholders to ensure a safe, clean and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance, Utilization Review and Performance improvement activities as required.
  • Obtains and maintains all clinical core competencies of the Respiratory Therapy Services department.
  • Demonstrates culturally appropriate behavior whilst working within the State of Qatar.
  • Participates in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication and teamwork. Treats colleagues, patients, and visitors with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Attends departmental staff meetings and education days to provide and exchange information.
  • Participates in departmental and organizational committees and change initiatives, as assigned.
  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.



3 year Diploma in Respiratory Therapy or 2+ years Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent


  • 2+ years of recent clinical experience within Respiratory Therapy in a secondary or tertiary level care facility


Completion of a neonatal/pediatric clinical student preceptorship at Sidra Medicine
