Your Tasks

  • Perform the duties and responsibilities for all areas of work covered under Instrument Engineering for assigned Onshore Engineering Projects;
  • These include Process Control, Emergency Shutdown Systems, Fire & Gas Systems and Field Instrumentation required to safely monitor and control Process Operations. Investigates and devises technical solutions to meet project requirements, prepares discipline input and technical documentation and supervises technical aspects during the course of projects;
  • Reviews Project Initiation Notes (PIN) and Statements of Requirements (SOR) to assess their suitability for implementation to ensure cost effective fit-for-purpose solutions and compliance with Corporate Safety and Environmental requirements. Develops and produces alternative technical solutions to meet the End User’s objectives inline with Corporate requirements;
  • Executes studies and engineering designs to develop Scopes of Work SOW) for tender;
  • Prepares the Basis for Design (BFD), selects appropriate technology, philosophies, essential standards, facility safeguarding, safety and environmental and ensures integration to existing facilities, constructability, operability and lifecycle cost;
  • Approves and reviews technical aspects of bids from Consulting Engineering Companies and Construction Contractors for his functional area of work. Reviews and approves Consulting Engineers, Contractors and Vendors capability, resources and technical strengths and endorses the Technical Bid Evaluation report;
  • Reviews and approves conceptual designs, philosophies and drawings, submitted by Contractors and Consulting Engineers for projects;
  • Reviews and approves detailed designs and documentation related to Material submittals, Procurement, Fabrication, Testing, Installation and Commissioning activities of projects. Reviews and approves pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up procedures and Operating and Maintenance manuals;
  • Participates as a functional member of HAZOP (Hazard & Operability) and HAZAN (Hazard Analysis) review teams. Contributes to the verification of project ‘Mechanical Completion’ and ‘Commissioning’ stages;
  • Develops along with Senior Project Engineers Project Execution Plans considering design, construction criteria and procurement strategies for critical items;
  • Visits work sites to establish existing conditions. Reviews applicability of existing drawings, Standards and Specifications and recommends appropriate changes. Carries out site survey work to enable design work to commence;
  • Prepares a scope of work for a third party to carry out detailed site surveys;
  • Prepares the technical parameters to enable the development of project cost estimates in conjunction with EBN;
  • Identifies to the Lead Engineer, the discipline engineering time/resource requirements for all current and planned design projects assigned to him and updates this information;
  • Undertakes Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) to ensure that major equipment meets the design requirement, and complies with COMPANY specifications. Endorse final Audit and approves the FAT report;
  • Co-ordinates the design activities of a multi-discipline team assigned to a project during a Statement of Requirements (SOR) review process, development of Scopes of Work (SOW) and Tender preparation and evaluation;
  • Reviews and verifies proposed technical deviations submitted by Consultants and Contractors against approved International codes, guidelines, design engineering practices and standards;
  • Contributes to the updating of discipline Engineering Standards, Specifications and Corporate Philosophies;
  • Coaches graduate Qatari Engineers in their development to Senior Discipline Engineer positions;
  • This includes development of Personnel Career Plans (PCP), prepares and manages engineering development activities, identifies training course needs and field I overseas assignments, and conducts monitoring visits;
  • Prepares and presents technical papers to Line/Senior Management to promote designs and/or strategies;
  • Deputizes for Lead Engineer.

Your Profile

  • B.Sc. in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering, preferably with Chartered Engineering status or equivalent;
  • Possesses very good technical skills in his discipline, as well as a thorough knowledge of industry/ international standards and their application;
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills to interface and communicate with internal and external departments, agencies, contractors and vendors;
  • Fully conversant with office and Engineering software applications relevant to his discipline.
