Develop and implement the Industrial Hygiene Program (IHP), which aims to protect employees, contractors and visitors from unacceptable exposure to occupational health risks.
Job Context & Major Challenge(s)
Applies a high level of knowledge in anticipating and identifying all possible occupational hazards and measuring limits of exposures to determine the ways of workers protections. Hazards may be physical such as (Noise & Heat), Chemical or Biological and treated in accordance with established Company policies, Government laws and specialized technical standards.
Ability to provide professional consultation and problem-solving on complex Industrial Hygiene issues.
Setting priorities based on health risk assessment and cost-benefit rather than position or seniority of the requesting party is an ongoing challenge.
Key Job Accountabilities
Implement the Industrial Hygiene Program (IHP) and Annual Action Plan, ensuring compliance with relevant industrial hygiene standards. Participates in the EHS meetings with the various departments to present information on their activities and findings related to the Industrial Hygiene Program.
Review workplace health issues, raised by departments and to follow up to ensure that recommendations are implemented in a timely manner.
Perform qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments to identify workplace health hazards and submits reports with recommendations for achieving hazard reduction and compliance with relevant industrial hygiene standards.
Conduct routine audits of the plant and offshore facilities to identify issues, as well as determine level of compliance.
Assist in the implementation of control measures (engineering, work practices and/or personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, to reduce exposure risk.
Assist in the development and presentation of applicable workplace health protection training including hazard communications, hearing conservation, respiratory protection and others as directed by the Chief Medical Officer.
Assist in the identification of those jobs requiring periodic medical surveillance, due to the potential for excessive exposure to chemical and/or physical agents.
Participate in the shutdown planning process to ensure that adequate resources are available during shutdown relative to support staff, training, PPE, and monitoring equipment.
Key Job Accountabilities
Participate in process change and new construction discussions to ensure that potential workplace health problems are anticipated and controlled.
Assist to calibrate, purchase and maintain industrial hygiene instruments necessary to support the Industrial Hygiene Program (IHP). Assist in the annual audit of the Industrial Hygiene Program (IHP).
Desired Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or Science, with further study in Industrial Hygiene.
Knowledge and/or Experience
6 years experience in industrial hygiene, including at least 3 in the oil and gas industry including onshore/offshore.
