About the job

As Corporate Planning Manager, you will be working within the Corporate Planning team, responsible for developing medium and long-term strategic initiatives, working on day-to-day functions, projects and ad-hoc tasks across the division. You will be managing analysis and data gathering requests, both internally within CP and between departments. Within a complex data environment, tasks will involve ensuring teams perform sound analytic processing and comprehensive market research to support informed decision-making within CP. Through your team member’s support (or independently), formulate and deliver recommendations to CP, and for management and the rest of the business (jointly). The role will steer decision making and represent CP on departmental cross-functional initiatives.

Corporate Planning Areas And Key Accountabilities

Network Planning/Network Performance

  • Manage the development of the QR short and medium term route network with supporting business cases developed through comprehensive analysis e.g. for new or existing routes
  • Supervise and/or provide recommendations to maximize profitability by optimizing the allocation of capacity throughout the network e.g. new destinations, frequency changes and structural changes (aircraft, retime, tags, triangles)
  • Monitor and review existing performance and identify ways to further enhance or improve operating results.
  • Use the industry network planning tool(s) which encompasses:
    • Running the model as base for business cases.
    • Analyzing passenger flows, revenues and costs by route and verify forecasted versus actual performance.
    • Improving the accuracy of the model’s data inputs through continuous fine-tuning.
    • Utilizing applications within the model i.e. a fleet assigner or a hub improvement model.

Network Planning Systems

  • Manage the use of industry network planning systems and tools which encompasses:
    • Build a dataset of schedules, market sizes, fares and costs to develop accurate demand and profit forecasts.
    • Calibrating connection builder and market share model parameters (e.g. service type, elapsed time/time preference) to accurately reflect changing competitive landscape.
    • In-house calibration of QR network on a sector and O&D mix level by utilising industry standards.
    • Monitoring accuracy of quality levels through the application of the QSI / Logit Standard or another accuracy function as determined.
    • Utilizing applications within the model i.e. a fleet assigner or a hub improvement model to ensure accurate forecasting.

Scheduling

  • Manage the development of the QR short and medium term schedules and Aircraft Rotations.
  • Provide management with Reports on key KPIs i.e. ASKs/ Block Hours/ Utilization/ Fleet Deployment/ Capacity Changes.
  • Provide recommendations to maximize or enhance profitability through the optimum allocation of the capacity throughout the network e.g. frequency, aircraft type, schedule timings.
  • Manages capacity changes through coordination with Operational Departments, Airports and Slot Coordinators
  • Manage the use of Schedule Planning tool(s) which encompasses:
    • Optimizing fleet deployment on a monthly basis using a fleet assigner tool.
    • Maintaining slots and ensure no loss of slots on 80/20 rule using a slot manager tool.
    • Improving the accuracy of the model’s data inputs through continuous fine-tuning.

Corporate Strategy and Fleet Planning

  • Lead key analysis and market research within Corporate Planning particularly,
    • Delivering competitive intelligence and KPI benchmarking.
    • Managing various strategic initiatives relating to macro/ micro evaluations and cost/ benefit analyses.
  • Steer a small team and deliver material on core Corporate Planning-related activities which support various strategy projects, both internally and externally, on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Lead special projects to support/enhance future strategic options.
  • Manage and update the QR fleet plan including:
    • Collating inputs from various stakeholders to update database.
    • Deliver an optimized entry and exit fleet plan on a regular basis.
    • Provide supporting material for fleet negotiations as and when requested.
    • To share fleet exit plan with other stakeholders on a need-to-know basis.
  • Develop business cases to adjust aircraft exit dates including leases in order to maximise profitability.
  • Support the evaluation of aircraft configuration options for new aircraft and retrofits.
  • Evaluate maintenance plans and coordinate on improving them jointly with Scheduling and Network Planning in order to ensure best availability of productive fleet when required.
  • Manage various internal databases which drive business intelligence.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of all fleet tools and databases.
  • Support the preparation of Fleet and Strategy management presentation.
  • Follow-up with service/product providers to ensure highest levels of tool effectiveness.

Alliance and Partnership

  • Create and manage a portfolio of partnership accounts spanning from interline and code share to joint businesses
  • Continuously identify ways to maximize the value of existing partnerships in close cooperation with internal stakeholders
  • Identify new potential partnerships suitable to enhancing Qatar’s network reach and market presence, through manager’s own informed analysis
  • Prepare business cases and project manage any related implementation
  • Create a detailed reporting and monitoring system as a prerequisite for the proper steering and management of the assigned partnerships
