Job Description

Northwestern University in Qatar invites applications from highly qualified candidates for a full-time Assistant Professor faculty appointment in performance studies, with a primary regional focus on West Asia and North Africa, particularly Arab countries, or on other Global South contexts, to be appointed to a position in the Communication and Liberal Arts Programs.

We seek candidates with an active research and/or performance program that focuses on theater, music, dance, media making. Preference given to scholars whose work is comparative or transnational, who investigate questions of performance from critical and interdisciplinary perspectives, who include race and/or gender in their analysis, and who have linguistic competence and field experience in their area of research. Successful candidates will hold a Ph.D. by the time of appointment and could come from theater, performance, media and/or communication studies or from related interdisciplinary backgrounds. Candidates are expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate education and program development.

NU-Q provides competitive compensation and benefits. The medium of instruction is English, but proficiency in Arabic or another regional language is an advantage at NU-Q. Candidates with experience in US higher education as well as in the Arab region; women; and persons from traditionally underrepresented groups in academia are particularly encouraged to apply.
