About the job

  • This position is responsible for the management, coordination, operations, planning, reporting, and monitoring of the advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and smart meter systems applications.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for all AMI operations and components including software, hardware, meters, firmware, equipment, communications, and ancillary devices used in the operations of the AMI Network
  • Experience in developing operational policies, procedures and suggest strategies to manage operations of the Smart Metering Operations Center (SMOC) including meter rollout plan, disconnection, disconnection follow-up, managed and unmanaged meters, non-communicating meters, SMOC daily operations, manual tasks, complaints, site visits, SMOC Service catalogue, governance and KPI’s.
  • Expertise in prepaid and post-paid meter to cash operations in AMI and smart metering operations.
  • Subject matter expertise in AMI operations, technology, and systems, from head-end software, SMOC application to the field endpoints. Experience with Siemens head-end system is a plus.
  • Provide technical support to the AMI program, operations and related software and equipment.
  • Coordinate with project manager to assign work to team members; provides work direction to various staff; provide day-to-day leadership and training and ensures a high performance, customer service-oriented work environment that supports achieving the Meter department’s mission, strategic plan, objectives, and values.
  • Extensive knowledge of meter data management systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of the AMI system infrastructure and configuration.
  • Provide support to system users regarding custom data and usage patterns; provides training to users on AMI software and uses expertise to assist end users.
  • Prepare special/or recurring reports and/or special studies; develops recommendations to improve department operations; coordinates work with various divisions.
  • Provides technical and functional supervision to assigned meter services staff; participates in performing routine to complex and specialized AMI installation, maintenance, and repair work.
  • Expertise in practices, methods, techniques, tools, and equipment used in the AMI reading, meter installation, testing, calibration, maintenance, and repair of small, medium, and large Electricity and water meters that utilize AMI components.
  • End to end process mapping and structured problem solving, theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to develop and monitor SMOC and AMI department’s performance standards.
  • Experience in SMOC operations, best practice, day-to-day SMOC operations activities, shift change and handover process, HSE regulations, other related principles and procedures including record keeping.
  • Manage coordination of project partners and working groups; develop and maintain detailed project plans; coordinates project deliverables, issues, project scope, and change control, progress, and performance; provides project status reports.

Requirements

  • 8 – 10 plus years of successful performance in a Utilities customer service, start metering, AMI systems, SMOC operations, communication technology, thorough knowledge of software operating systems, networking, and applications related to Siemens or other AMI systems.
  • Experience with utility and AMI operations is a must.
  • Experience with Siemens AMI systems highly desirable i.e. Asset Management System, EnergyIP, UDIS and Meter Data Management systems, and Pre-Payment.
  • Experience with wireless communication/RF/broadband communication technologies and IP suite.
  • Hands-on experience working with various types of smart electricity and water meters i.e. ELSTER, Landis & Gyr etc.
