About The Role

As an Occurrence Data Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining local procedures within the Safety Procedures Manual and ensuring that the guidelines of the SMS manual are being adhered to by staff of the Group Safety department. Responsible for assisting Safety in ensuring QR staff are trained in SMS. In addition, responsible for implementation of systems, databases, equipment solutions and training programmes to enhance SMS. Additionally, you will Ensure through conduct of systematic reviews that the occurrence reporting procedures remain current and periodically updated in consultation with SM Flight Safety. Your duties include:

  • Work closely with Flight Operations, Ground Services, Cargo, Cabin Services, Group Security and Engineering Services to ensure safety related information are immediately reported and investigated.
  • Ensure that each occurrence is appropriately classified for risk based on the company approved risk matrix.
  • Ensure the hazard and risk register is maintained within AQD. Notify VPS and SVP GSS all issues of safety concern and update them on a daily basis any occurrence, event or finding of medium and high severity.
  • Manage the implementation of Safety Management System in Qatar Airways through training programs and safety bulletins.
  • Manage the implementation of the standardized reporting format for Qatar Airways. Ensure the reporting formats are reviewed and amended as per company needs and international best practices.
  • Ensure local procedures of the Safety department are current and amended as required.
  • Ensure Mandatory Occurrence Reports are uploaded to the QCAA Safety Website in a timely manner and follow up to closure.
  • Ensure any changes to the procedures are brought to the notice of VPS/SMFS.
  • Carry out investigations into incidents at the request of VPS/SMFS and make recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Manage and ensure that assessments against occurrences made to various departments are actioned within appropriate time and if required coordinate with the department managers to ensure timely closure. Assess responses and close occurrences and provide feedback to the reporter.
  • Liaise with the SM Flight Safety and the Fleet Safety Managers to highlight safety trends and significant events which require flight crew counselling.
  • Carry out safety audits and safety risk assessments for new airports prior to start of operations.
  • Ensure all the safety related information is current on the Flight Crew portal to reflect current Safety policies, procedures and initiatives.
  • Follow up with individual flight crew members to submit occurrence reports based on events identified as part of the Flight Operations Quality Assurance Programme.
  • Oversee the upload of de-identified safety data to the IATA Global Safety Data Management Portal as per agreement on a quarterly basis.
  • Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the SVPGS&S and VPS.


  • Must have knowledge of aviation and aircraft systems. The MOD must be familiar with Safety Management System and legislation (ICAO, QCARs, EU-Ops, FARs and QR Ops Manuals) and international safety bodies such as IATA, Flight Safety Foundation.
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office programs.
  • Good overall knowledge of airline operations.
  • Familiarity with airline emergency response requirements.
  • Well-developed strategic planning skills.

  • High level of accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and consistently deliver high quality work.
  • Command of English language.
