Role Purpose

Responsible for the production and management of Digital content for the museum’s digital content systems, learning platforms, digital signage and gallery displays. As a vital team member, this position works with MIA’s Head of Digital Assets and collaborates with a variety of other departments within the museum. Focusing on the quality and accessibility of MIA’s digital assets, the Digital Content Specialist will also facilitate the creation compelling public-facing content, and provide digital services within MIA.

Key Accountabilities

Digital Asset Database Management

  • Working with a Digital Assets Management System (DAMS)
  • Upload, edit, update, and manage Digital Assets used throughout the museum’s permanent and special exhibition galleries.
  • Assist to develop & build the MIA Digital Asset Management system and archive
  • Keeping digital archives up to date and catalogued

Digital Asset Management for the museum collection online

  • Bring collection object images and metadata online
  • Managing and editing Digital Asset metadata
  • Assist with the development of the online collection

Web page Digital Asset Management

  • Keep the MIA webpage up to date with accurate information
  • Assist updating the museums online news, events, and activity calendars
  • Digital Signage
  • Management of gallery and exhibition digital assets
  • Keep the MIA digital signage up to date with accurate information
  • Creating and editing digital signage templates & graphics

Digital Asset support for social media & marketing.

  • Collaborate with social media, marketing, and PR teams to help promote Exhibitions, events, and the museum in general digitally.
  • Manage & update digital content for MIA’s presence on select a limited number of social media platforms
  • Assist with local and international requests
  • Assist the museum to receive and respond to requests through its web page & other channels
  • Assists the digital assets department to receive, process, and deliver image requests

As part of a team, collaborate with a variety of museum departments and stakeholders

  • Primarily working within the MIA Digital Assets department
  • MIA Deputy Directors, Curators, Exhibitions, Education & Learning and Outreach
  • Social Media teams, Marketing teams, IT & Digital experience teams

Administrative duties

  • Contribute to the MIA Digital Strategy
  • Contributing to in house media production projects
  • Proactive, comfortable to work with minimal supervision
  • Help maintain the museum’s branding and the institutional voice
  • Produce work to museum digital heritage quality standards
  • Web research and analytics interpretation
  • Keeping track of activities and writing of reports
  • Make technical and workflow recommendation and assist with implementation
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the line manager

Maintain and promote accessibility design

  • Working with content in English and Arabic
  • WCAG Standards

User Interface design recommendations

Qualifications/Requirements:

Key requirements

  • Interested or have background in history & museums
  • Understand and can support the diverse needs of a cultural institution
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to write, edit and proofread
  • English fluency required, Arabic fluency is an advantage
  • Knowledge and experience with Islamic art an advantage
  • Experience with Digital Asset and Content Management systems
  • Experience with web development and digital signage
  • Experience with museum collection management systems an advantage
  • Photography & videography and editing skills are highly desirable
  • Able to spot and act to correct typographic errors
  • Creative visual problem solving & critical thinking
  • Respect for details and values consistency
  • Archiving and cataloguing digital assets.

Technical requirements

  • Delivery of content for the various MIA digital delivery platform technologies
  • Editing, and updating text and paragraphs
  • Working daily with digital Image editing software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, lightroom) and other
  • Digital editing and converting images and films to various formats
  • Assist with adding English/Arabic subtitles to images and films
  • Demonstrated graphic design skills will be helpful
  • Frequently working with and updating metadata in XML, CSV and other formats
  • Experience with HTML will be an advantage
  • Daily use of Microsoft office (particularly Word & Excel)
  • Learning and adapting to new technology

Education, Experience, and certification requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in arts, communications, journalism, or related field.
  • Technical certificate in digital assets or collection database management.
  • A minimum of 9 years relevant experience.
