We are looking for a motivated, business savvy bilingual (English and Arabic) in-house paralegal to join our MENA General Counsel Office team based in Doha. This role will be within the Core Business Services (CBS) service line and will handle a broad range of responsibilities supporting the MENA region. Â The ideal candidate should demonstrate a fair understanding of paralegal work aspects in relation to Litigation and Corporate matters with a nuanced view of the EY business environment and practice, as well as demonstrate knowledge and experience working inhouse directly with internal legal counsels team to handle corporate, compliance and internal case management process and liaise with external firms as need be.
Your key responsibilities
- Handle the required internal case management processes as directed by the litigation team including conducting pre-claim investigation, legal research and initial case assessments, preparing legal documents, and briefs, and handling other requirements as may be necessary including liaising with external law firms as needed
- Research, monitor and analyse law resources and advice business on any legal updates that may impact the firm. Prepare, organize and file all pertinent legal documentation under the guidance of the designated counsel and work with outside counsel to coordinate filings and other corporate requirements under local law where needed.
- Perform and handle all administrative duties required (calendar hearings and deadlines, organise case files, update and maintain internal databases, manage documents preservation etc.)
- Perform a wide variety of tasks and duties that include but are not limited to managing contracts, compliance, corporate and litigation matters as required by the legal department.
- Coordinate requests and correspondence between multiple stakeholders involved in litigation, including external counsels, business functions and insurers.
- Report directly to a designated litigation team member.
Skills and attributes for success
Ideal candidates should have a paralegal associates degree (or any equivalent degree or proven track record) with 5+ years of post-qualification experience, with a preference for in-house experience with growing businesses or international companies. Have excellent verbal and written communication skills, attentive to detail, resourceful research and analytical skills, ability to manage and prioritize tasks.
To qualify, you must have
- Paralegal associate degree or other relevant certification (relevant experience may be considered) and at least 5 years of post-qualification experience.
- A proven level of English and Arabic fluency, both spoken and written.
- Working knowledge of litigation documentation, court rules and procedures, and practices.
- Drafting, filing and managing various business entity documents for corporations.
- Extensive computer and database expertise.
- Excellent business judgment, intellectual curiosity and the ability to balance legal and business requirements.
- Highly organized with ability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- High Teaming value, with proven ability to establish a high degree of credibility, respect and trust at all levels, including working collaboratively as a team player with internal business stakeholders.
- The capability to lead, take responsibility and act autonomously; including an ability to take difficult decisions and provide substantiated arguments
- Strong personal communication skills, capable of dealing with wide range of people
- Effective planning and organising skills to prioritise key areas of responsibility, tasks and projects with deadlines and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced changing environment.
- The ability to keep calm in a crisis and to cope well with conflicting deadlines
Ideally, you should also
- Bachelor’s degree in Law is advantageous, but not a necessity
- Working knowledge of motions, discovery, and evidence
- Experience in or demonstrated interest in innovation and technology that simplifies processes
