Primary objective

  • The Chief Engineer co-ordinates all the piping engineering, piping design and equipment layout functions to meet the objectives of the various Projects, which also mainly includes greenfield and brownfield offshore Projects
  • Responsible authority over the Lead Piping/Layout Engineer, Lead Stress Engineer, Lead Material Engineer, all assigned to the discipline to complete the plant layout & piping design and engineering activities

Specific and Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for all Piping Chief Engineer functions
  • In absence of the Piping Discipline Manager, to function as a Delegate and be responsible for all DM functions
  • Supervision, training and leading a Team of Engineers, Designers, 3D modelers, Stress & support Engineers and Materials Engineers of different culture, nationality, levels of experience, for the design and engineering associated with all projects
  • Motivate team members to initiate ideas to improve efficiency and quality of deliverables
  • Providing feedback for performance appraisals of all reporting staff in Piping Discipline
  • Proactive in transferring skills and sharing knowledge.
  • Contributes to the development of the procedures required for the preparation and checking of calculations, drawings, and documents.
  • Contributes to technology selection studies, process simplification, customized standards, value engineering constructability review, 3D CAD review and cost estimates.
  • Organise and Manage all Piping Engineering and Design works for various offshore greenfield and brownfield Projects (conceptual, FEED, Detail Engineering) on a Key Client Portfolio.
  • Ensure recognised offshore engineering practices applicable to piping design and topside/plant layout are adopted.
  • Review and approve all piping design and engineering deliverables, ensure that all works is in line with the requirements of project standards and ensure all deliverables are issued as per project requirements
  • Piping design integrity of work scope and maintenance of standards.
  • Lead the Presentation of the 3D model Reviews and Plot Plan / Equipment Layout Reviews
  • Interaction with Manager of Engineering, Project Engineering Managers and Project Managers, as well as Interaction (as and when required) with Company Management, HR, Recruitment, Finance, IT
  • Apply good leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, liaising across the organisation with members of other disciplines and departments.
  • Coordination, Interaction, and meetings with Client, as well as Vendors, Contractors
  • Active participation in management meetings for: Engineering reviews, Project reviews, Project planning, Business development and Improvement programs
  • Inter-disciplinary coordination, including squad checking, Coordination with Projects discipline
  • Manpower planning and resource allocation for different projects including work share between low-cost centres and special skills centres
  • Project progress and budget monitoring and control for different projects, reporting of needs list, areas of concerns, deviations
  • Implementing HSE and quality assurance within the department within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance systems.
  • Identifying industry best practices and implementing the same within the department for improving efficiency and effectiveness
  • Pre-bid engineering and proposal estimate for various prospective projects ranging from feasibility study, conceptual design, FEED to detail engineering & procurement services
  • Estimation of man-hours during tendering stage
  • Providing Inputs to EPC Scope of Works
  • Provide inputs to Change reporting and Change management
  • Industry-Specific Experience
    • Engineering Degree, with 20 years of work experience in Piping Engineering and Design.
    • The work experience must essentially be a minimum 15 years of experience in O&G Greenfield and Brownfield Offshore Projects

    Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training

  • Full-Time Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited universityMME (Ministry of Municipality and Environment) engineering accreditation is a mandatory requirement. Candidates not holding this accreditation must be willing to achieve this within the probationary period.Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or undertaking the same will be an advantage
