About the job

The ideal candidate will be responsible to support the Legal Office and provide advice on a broad range of legal and strategic issues.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and negotiate contractual arrangements, including those with contractors, customers, consultants, suppliers, lessors, shippers, buyers, lenders, etc. to ensure that the Foundation is protected legally.
  • Take a proactive legal role with respect to Finance, Procurement, IT, PR & Marketing and HR issues. Anticipate legal impediments.
  • Keep informed of any incidents that may have legal implications and take action as appropriate.
  • Work closely with lenders’ legal representatives to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of loan agreements.
  • Work closely with insurers on loss prevention.
  • Develop contingency plans for worst-case scenarios (losses, environmental damage, etc.)
  • Establish and maintain standards and policies within the Foundation to ensure compliance with a complex legal system .
  • Reconciles Qatari Arabic laws with English contracts and agreements.
  • Ensure that concerned parties are aware of the legal implications of their actions.
  • Provide advice concerning legal implications present in current and long-range mission plans and programs. Continually review and evaluate the total program for attainment of objectives.
  • Advise on Laws, regulations and opinions of the courts and administrative agencies as well as Administrative Law, Contract, Environmental, Litigation, Fiscal, Civilian, Personnel, Standards of Conduct, Conflicts of Interest, and government ethics matters.
  • Should be acquainted with the general conditions of FIDIC.
  • Must maintain knowledge of current legal information in area of expertise as well as in the areas of special laws applicable to not-for-profit foundations and legal issues unique to QF’s activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law
  • 6-8 years of experience working as a commercial lawyer and / or in a professional business
  • environment
  • Commercial knowledge related to non-profit organizations, preferably gained through working with large public-sector organizations
  • Outstanding negotiation skills
  • Excellent oral communication skills and excellent writing skills, with the ability to draft/ edit a variety of written reports and communications and articulate ideas clearly and concisely in both Arabic and English
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to draft and edit a variety of written reports and communications and to articulate ideas clearly and concisely; Arabic proficiency is an advantage
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications
