The Head of Corporate Insurance plays a critical role in protecting QR Group’s financial resilience, operational continuity and balance sheet through the strategic design, placement and management of aviation and non-aviation insurance programmes. Reporting to the Vice President Corporate Insurance, the role ensures that insurable risks are identified, quantified, transferred or retained in line with QR Group’s risk appetite, governance standards and the Chief Financial Officer’s requirements for cost-effective coverage, premium discipline, claims recovery, risk visibility and assurance over material exposures. The role provides specialist insurance leadership, market insight and ERM-aligned reporting to support informed executive decision-making, safeguard Group assets and liabilities, and strengthen the organisation’s preparedness for major operational, contractual and financial risk events.
Role Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain QR Group’s aviation and non-aviation insurance strategy to ensure effective risk transfer, alignment with the Group’s risk appetite and resilience against material insurable exposures.
- Lead the design, placement and renewal of cost-effective insurance programmes that provide appropriate protection for QR Group assets, operations, liabilities and strategic business activities.
- Provide strategic insurance advice to senior management and key stakeholders to support informed decision-making on risk retention, risk transfer, claims strategy and emerging insurance market developments.
- Embed insurance risk reporting within QR Group’s Enterprise Risk Management framework by monitoring key risk indicators, programme performance and material claims trends.
- Strengthen governance over insurance procurement, policy administration, broker and insurer relationships, and claims oversight to ensure compliance, transparency and value for the Group.
- Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the VP or SVP.
- Manage the end-to-end placement, renewal and administration of QR Group insurance policies to ensure continuous and appropriate cover for aviation and non-aviation risks.
- Coordinate claims notification, documentation, follow-up and settlement activities with internal stakeholders, brokers, insurers and loss adjusters to support timely recovery and effective claims outcomes.
- Maintain accurate insurance records, policy schedules, certificates, premium data and renewal trackers to support audit readiness, compliance and business continuity.
- Liaise with business units to assess insurable exposures, validate coverage requirements and obtain underwriting information required for policy placement and renewal.
- Monitor broker and insurer service delivery, policy compliance, premium payments and claims progress to ensure agreed service standards and contractual obligations are met.
- Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the Head of the Department
- Deputise for the Vice President in key responsibilities including attendance at the Group Emergency Control Centre (GECC)
- Support the VP Corporate Insurance in translating the Group insurance strategy into annual operating plans, renewal priorities and measurable departmental deliverables.
- Prepare insurance programme updates, claims summaries, renewal recommendations and management reports for review by the VP Corporate Insurance and onward escalation to senior stakeholders.
- Maintain effective working relationships with brokers, insurers, reinsurers, loss adjusters and other service providers to support competitive placement outcomes and efficient claims handling.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent
- Minimum 10 years of job-related experience
- ACII qualified or progression towards ACII
- Experience within the aviation, transport, logistics or complex multinational corporate environment.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance risk protection, premium cost, claims recovery and value-for-money outcomes.
- Ability to operate confidently with senior stakeholders, including Finance leadership, Legal, Procurement, Risk, Operations and external insurance market partners.
- Working knowledge of insurance analytics, exposure data, benchmarking, claims trends and management information to support evidence-based recommendations.
- Extensive experience in corporate, aviation or complex commercial insurance, including programme design, placement, renewal management, claims oversight and insurance governance.
- Proven experience leading, supervising and developing insurance professionals, including workload prioritisation, performance management, coaching, succession planning and quality assurance of team outputs.
- Demonstrated experience managing brokers, insurers, reinsurers, loss adjusters, consultants and other third-party suppliers, including service performance, contractual deliverables, escalation management and value-for-money outcomes.
- Strong experience preparing executive-level insurance reports, renewal recommendations, claims briefings and risk insights for senior management, finance leadership and governance forums.
- Experience working with Finance, Legal, Procurement, Risk, Safety, Security and operational stakeholders to assess insurable exposures, negotiate insurance requirements and resolve complex coverage or claims matters.
