The Hamilton International School (THIS), part of the International Schools Partnership (ISP), is seeking an exceptional Subject Lead – English Language Arts (ELA) to join our dynamic Secondary team. About the Role

We are looking for an outstanding, student-centered English educator and leader to drive excellence across our English Language Arts provision in Secondary. This is a key middle leadership role, combining a teaching commitment with strategic oversight of curriculum, teaching, and learning.

The successful candidate will lead the development of a coherent, high-quality ELA curriculum from Middle School through to High School Diploma and IBDP, ensuring strong progression, innovation, and consistently high outcomes for all students.

You will join a collaborative and forward-thinking team that values reflective practice, continuous improvement, and strong relationships across the school community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic development and day-to-day management of the ELA department across Secondary
  • Teach English across Grades 6–12, including High School Diploma and/or IBDP courses (approx. 70% teaching commitment)
  • Drive high standards of teaching, learning, assessment, and student achievement across the department
  • Oversee curriculum planning, ensuring coherence, progression, and alignment with US standards and IB frameworks
  • Monitor student progress through robust assessment systems and lead data-informed improvement strategies
  • Coach and support teachers to continuously improve classroom practice and student outcomes
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture
  • Contribute to whole-school strategic planning and improvement priorities
  • Maintain strong communication with parents and represent the department at key school events
  • Support the wider life of the school, including extracurricular and enrichment programs
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health & safety, and professional standards

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or English (with teaching qualification).
  • Valid teaching certification meeting Qatar MOEHE requirements.
  • Minimum 5 years’ teaching experience, including experience in High School Diploma and/or IBDP English.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum, assessment, and effective teaching practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an international, multicultural environment.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and student wellbeing.
