About the job

Parsons is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Highway CAD Technician to join our team! In this role, you will support highway and roads engineering teams by producing accurate, coordinated, and detailed technical drawings and models using CAD software. You will play a key role in developing highway design deliverables for major road, expressway, and infrastructure projects, ensuring all outputs comply with project requirements, client standards, and international design codes.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Preparing detailed highway and road design drawings, layouts, and plans using AutoCAD and other design platforms, including horizontal and vertical alignments, cross sections, typical sections, and pavement markings.
  • Producing detailed drawings for interchanges, junctions, roundabouts, access roads, and associated highway elements (barriers, signage, drainage interfaces, utilities corridors, etc.).
  • Converting conceptual and preliminary highway designs, sketches, and mark-ups from engineers into accurate technical drawings and models.
  • Reviewing, updating, and revising existing drawings to incorporate design changes, RFIs, site instructions, and coordination comments.
  • Coordinating with site and supervision teams to ensure drawings reflect actual site conditions, survey data, and construction progress.
  • Ensuring all drawings comply with client CAD standards, project specifications, layer conventions, and BIM/CAD execution plans.
  • Preparing and organizing drawing sheets for issue, including title blocks, legends, notes, and drawing registers.
  • Assisting in the preparation of construction documentation, shop drawings, setting-out drawings, and as-built drawings for handover.
  • Supporting clash detection and coordination between highways, utilities, structures, and other disciplines by maintaining well-organized and consistent CAD models.
  • Maintaining structured electronic drawing records, ensuring that the latest approved revisions are clearly identified and readily available.
  • Providing mentoring, technical guidance, and quality checks on drawings produced by junior CAD technicians.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (highways, drainage, utilities, structures, traffic, and landscape) to produce integrated and coordinated design packages.

What Required Skills You’ll Bring

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering, Drafting, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • 10 years demonstrable experience in CAD drafting for civil/highway or infrastructure construction projects.
  • At least 5 years of experience on highway / road or major infrastructure projects, with a solid understanding of site practices and construction workflows.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D, with the ability to manage complex highway drawings and models.
  • Familiarity with relevant highway design standards and guidelines as applicable to the project location.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken, with strong communication skills to coordinate with engineers, site teams, and other technicians.
  • Strong general computer skills and the ability to work with various design software applications and project collaboration platforms.

What Desired Skills You’ll Bring

  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in preparing highway design drawings.
  • Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, including file management, version control, and documentation of drawing deliverables.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented mindset when faced with design or technical challenges, suggesting practical drafting and coordination solutions.
  • Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams on large infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in 3D modeling and corridor modeling tools.
  • Familiarity with BIM processes and CAD standards used in major infrastructure programs is preferred.
