The Accountant works on student financial areas including but not limited to managing student accounts, providing customer service to students, creating payment plans, performing reconciliations and serves as a backup to the Visitor Services Coordinator in their Student Employment functions.


  • Managing student accounts including but not limited to posting payments and reconciling balances
  • Performing complex reconciliations to ensure all AR balances are accurate
  • Interact with students providing excellent customer service to answer all inquiries in a timely manner
  • Prepare and send student and sponsor invoices on a semester basis
  • Prepare and send monthly student statements
  • Liaise with sponsors including Qatar Foundation to ensure accurate records are maintained
  • Coordinate with QF housing to ensure accurate housing invoices are issued
  • Perform preliminary monthly AR aging analysis per the NU-Q Students Accounts Receivable Policy
  • Assist in preparation of annual closing entries for fiscal year end closings
  • Create financial letters as required
  • Other tasks as assigned

Specific Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent of training and experience
  • Three years of work experience in accounting
  • Proficiency in working in multiple business systems
  • Strong computer skills, especially with word processing and spreadsheets

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s in Accounting or CPA/IPAA certification or the equivalent of training and experience
  • Expert skill level in Excel including the ability to write Macros
  • Experience in a higher education student finance office

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Strong collaboration, active listening, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office suite particularly with an emphasis in Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English
  • Maintaining and practicing a high level of confidentiality
