Job Purpose
We are looking for an experienced Senior Chemist to provide high-level specialist knowledge and analytical expertise to support laboratory testing and analytical processes. You will play a key role in ensuring that all laboratory operations adhere to industry standards, particularly ISO 17025, and contribute to ongoing improvements in our chemical analysis practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance with Standards: Ensure all laboratory activities are conducted in compliance with ISO standards and company policies and procedures.
- Method Design & Validation: Contribute to the design and configuration of laboratory testing methods. Select, configure, validate, and verify testing methods prior to use for analysis.
- Complex Chemical Analysis: Lead the investigation and resolution of complex chemical analysis challenges. Address customer technical complaints and other sources of non-conforming work.
- Team Coordination: Plan, assign, and review the work of professional and technical employees engaged in laboratory tests. Ensure proper use of equipment, materials, and test methods.
- Procedure Review & Updates: Regularly review and update laboratory sampling and analysis procedures to ensure they are accurate and in compliance with current standards. Ensure results are traceable and in line with quality certificates.
- Quality Control Oversight: Implement and monitor quality control systems. Oversee proficiency testing (PT) samples in line with ISO 17025 requirements.
- Calibration & Maintenance of Equipment: Calibrate laboratory equipment according to the established quality control schedule. Lead instrument start-up, commissioning, and calibration. Support in root cause investigation in case of equipment failure.
- Customer Correlation Tests: Conduct customer correlation tests in accordance with customer agreements and requirements.
- Result Analysis & Reporting: Review and validate results for both routine and non-routine samples, ensuring that they align with raw data. Interpret analytical data and make recommendations for improvements.
- Competency Evaluation: Evaluate the competency of new laboratory technicians and ensure proper tracking of competency assessments.
Person Specification – Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related science discipline.
Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in a laboratory environment, with at least 3 years in a Chemist role in the Oil & Gas or related industry.
- Knowledge of international auditing and compliance regulations, including ISO 17025.
Skills and Competencies:
- Fluency in English, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, along with strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in computer software, including MS Office Suite, and experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Experience in coaching and training junior staff.
