We are seeking a Rotating Equipment Engineer to join a major petrochemical Project to support the design and construction of a 2080 KTA Ethylene Unit. This will be part of the development of a new petrochemical plant in RLIC, Qatar, which will also include two high-density polyethylene units, associated utilities, offsites, pipelines, and a construction camp.

The Rotating Equipment Engineer is responsible for assuring the design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of rotating equipment result in safe, reliable operations. The Rotating Equipment Engineer will actively participate in Detail Design, Procurement and support the project team during Construction and Startup phases of the project. The role requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to identify gaps, develop solutions, provide expert feedback, develop procedures, and build a capital efficient facility.

Key Job Responsibilities

Responsible for all rotating equipment in the Ethylene scope including major centrifugal compressors, turboexpander/compressor, ethylene product pumps, centrifugal pumps, reciprocating compressors, etc.

Supports the engineering contractor in completing detailed design for rotating equipment.

Reviews inspection and test plans (ITPs) for manufacturing vendor surveillance.

Witness critical equipment mechanical and performance testing.

Monitors the equipment manufacturer’s work to ensure that requirements and specifications are satisfied.

Reviews contractor preservation plans for rotating equipment and associated packages.

Participates in design review of lubrication systems and oil selection, seal systems, machinery monitoring and protection systems, etc.

Helps ensure that constructed systems are completed appropriately from a technical perspective for system acceptance and that commissioned systems have appropriate Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.

Participates in method statement development and review of pre-commissioning plans, procedures, and activities.

Participates in Vendor Spare Part Interchangeability List review and stock selection along with stock level recommendations.

Provide Project Management regular updates, written and verbal, on the status of critical equipment manufacturing, testing, and installation activities.

Participates in Pre-startup Safety Reviews as appropriate.

Reviews content of preventive maintenance procedures.

Participates in equipment preservation assurance/preventive maintenance reviews along with regular field audits of equipment installation.

Provides troubleshooting expertise during commissioning and startup.

Provides key technical oversight of pre-commissioning and commissioning activities to ensure rotating equipment meets manufacturers’ standards prior to initial startup – oil systems, etc.

Works with vendor Field Service Representative during installation and commissioning of critical equipment.

Monitors critical equipment startup for machinery systems.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 10 yrs. Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree or mechanical specialist with 15+ years of relevant experience required

Previous capital project experience and/or working with an EPC contractor

Must have good trouble-shooting abilities

Must be a self-starter with desire to lead and take responsibility

Must have strong commitment to personnel and process safety

Must have knowledge of Industry Standards related to rotating equipment

Must have ability to work with peers, company employees, and Contractors

Must have hands-on experience in vibration monitoring and analysis

Must have working knowledge of machinery health monitoring methods/applications

Commitment to relocate internationally to engineering office and construction site

Commitment to stay on the project through Mechanical Completion and possibly startup

Excellent leadership and team building skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Excellent planning and organizational skills

Preferred Experience/Knowledge

Experience working within a Client team advantageous

‘Grass roots” major capital project experience.

Experience working with an EPC contractor(s)

Previous experience working in an ethylene unit or on an ethylene ‘grass roots’ capital project.

Previous experience with Bently Nevada machine monitoring systems.
