A remote structural engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and ensuring the structural integrity of buildings and infrastructure while working virtually. Their core duties involve performing complex load calculations, creating technical drawings, and selecting safe, cost-effective materials using specialized engineering software.
Core Responsibilities
- Structural Analysis: Use advanced software (like SAP2000, RAM Connection, or Space Gas) to calculate gravity, wind, and seismic forces to ensure a building can safely withstand environmental pressures.
- Design & Modelling: Translate architectural layouts into structural models using tools like AutoCAD and Revit, sizing up beams, columns, and slabs while ensuring code compliance.
- Documentation: Draft precise technical specifications, engineering reports, and calculations for regulatory approvals and building permits.
- Virtual Collaboration: Attend remote meetings to coordinate with architects, civil engineers, contractors, and clients to resolve design conflicts.
