About The Role:

As the Associate Legal Specialist – Compliance, you will be responsible to contribute to QRG’s overall compliance and governance program. You will:

  • Assist in advising on legal matters relating to a wide range of compliance regulations and legislation including those relating to Sanctions, Export Control, Anti Bribery and Corruption, Due Diligence, Ethics, Consumer Right, Competition, Governance and Data Protection.
  • Draft, review and update policies and procedures on a range of legal and compliance matters.
  • Support in understanding, interpreting and applying the compliance law(s) and regulation(s) principles to the QR Group’s current and future business strategies, to minimise QR Group’s exposure to operational, reputational and financial risk(s).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support on matters related to compliance, ensuring Qatar Airways Group is compliant with applicable laws and regulations,
  • Assist in identifying legal and compliance risks and recommend improvements and robust remedial plans for identified gaps where necessary,
  • Assist in providing legal interpretations on compliance laws and regulations with a view to minimize QR Group’s exposure to operational, reputational and financial risk(s).
  • Assist in developing and implementing Compliance training, awareness program, relevant policies, procedures, and guidance
  • Support in developing and maintaining relevant global compliance and regulatory programme.
  • Advise QR Group’s employees on the applicable compliance and regulatory laws and regulations.
  • Assist in conducting compliance risk assessments to identify any gaps and/or mitigation strategies.
  • Undertake compliance monitoring activities.
  • Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the Head of the Department.

Qualifications About you:

  • Must hold Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent with Minimum 5 years of compliance and regulatory specific legal, compliance or audit experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a large organisation in multi-cultural environment in legal, risk & compliance, including:
  • conducting compliance and regulatory risk and monitoring, and managing compliance and regulatory issues and risks,
  • an in-depth understanding of core Compliance area related laws and regulations and their applications such as Sanctions, Export Control, Due Diligence, Governance, Competition and Data Protection, aviation laws and regulations.
  • Expertise in minimum one core Compliance area, with strong skills to demonstrate a proactive and adaptable attitude towards learning and developing new skills in other areas.
  • Must be qualified as a lawyer, an auditor or a compliance specialist in a recognized jurisdiction
  • Track record of handling complex issues and negotiating with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent Command of English language, in written and spoken.
  • Excellent MS Word and other MS Office packages.
  • Excellent writing, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

  • Formally recognized compliance specialist with certification(s)
  • Aviation industry experience
  • Prior experience in dealing with technology solution related to compliance issues (e.g. vendor/supplier technical evaluations, GRC)
