Scope: Early Years and Primary

Reporting to: Head of Early Years School and Head of Primary School

In order to fill this role effectively, the successful candidate will need to have a diverse range of qualities, competencies and experience. A Primary Music & Performing Arts Teacher should be an adaptable and inspiring educator, with the ability to deliver a coherent, integrated, broad, inquiry-based programme. He/She should be an outstanding teacher, learner, motivator and communicator, with excellent interpersonal skills, and should be capable of preparing students for international programmes in a stimulating, challenging and well-organised learning environment. He/She should be able to provide professional expertise, high quality teaching and learning, make effective use of resources and ensure improved standards of learning and achievement for all students.

Requirements

  • Qualifications and experience. The school prefers people with:
  • Bachelor degree in Performing Arts, Music or equivalent
  • Qualified teacher status appropriate to the teaching duties to be undertaken.
  • Experience of, and recent training in, performing arts, especially with IB Early Years and Primary Performing Arts and Music
  • Knowledge and Skills. He/She should:
  • be aligned with the ISL values of belonging, integrity, grit and kindness.
  • possess excellent communication skills and be willing to adapt to the demands of an international school, in particular he/she should be able to communicate effectively in English
  • have a high level of understanding of current research as to how children learn and possess the ability to motivate students to perform at their best
  • through differentiated instruction, and by using a variety of styles, be able to inspire diverse classes, by creating challenging and engaging learning opportunities for all students
  • be able to support student needs in learning and pastoral matters
  • be aware of the principles of Understanding by Design and Assessment for Learning
  • Be aware of the principles of the IB Programme
  • be adept and accomplished at teaching performing arts, especially music to students in the early years and primary school
  • have a high level of awareness of current developments in performing arts and musc
  • be able to participate fully in an expanding IB school and, in particular, help to contributing to the team spirit of the performing arts team
  • have the ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload
  • Responsibilities.
  • To implement PYP policy and strategic plans
  • To plan, prepare and teach lessons in performing arts and/or music
  • To coordinate and able to do sound engineering for events and perform in musicals
  • To contribute to the extra-curricular activities programme of the school
  • To contribute to the development of the performing arts programme in the community
  • To participate in professional learning and contribute to regular staff training or meetings
  • To use technology to support performing arts learning, especially through use of a Virtual Learning Environment and digital music, dance and other resources
  • To contribute to the contribute to maintaining a positive attitude between performing arts and the wider community through cooperative relations, publications, competitions etc.
